Pieter Willem Botha was a president of South Africa during Apartheid. Botha was born January 12th, 1916 in Paul Roux, South Africa. Pieter Willem Botha went to a University in Orange Free State, but he didn't complete his studies. During World War ll he worked for the Ox Fire Wagon. But then later he distanced his self from the guard. Later he was elected a seat with the National Party. When he was 20, he became a full time organizer for the NP. And later became president. In 1995, a Truth and Reconciliation Commission was established in South Africa to review atrocities committed during the apartheid years. Botha was summoned before the commission in 1997 but refused to participate. He was fined and received a suspended sentence, which was later appealed and overturned. Botha gave a speech and said " I have nothing to apologize for. I will never ask for amnesty. Not now. Not Tomorrow, not after tomorrow.” Botha died October 31st, 2006 in his home in Cape Town, South Africa from a heart attack.
